Surviving Sepsis Campaign International Guidelines for Children
Society of Critical Care Medicine / European Society of Intensive Care Medicine · 2020
The paediatric-specific sepsis guidance, notable for separating recommendations by whether intensive care is available — a direct response to the FEAST result.
Recommendations are split between systems with and without availability of intensive care.
Fluid resuscitation guidance is conditioned on that availability rather than given as a single number.
Recognition, antimicrobial timing and vasoactive support are addressed separately.
Where intensive care is not available, bolus fluid is not recommended in children without hypotension.
Most recommendations are weak with low or very low certainty of evidence — the guideline says so itself.
Read the strength-of-recommendation and certainty ratings, not only the recommendation text.
Pairs directly with the FEAST trial in Landmark Trials.
